Congrats on making it a year of consistently showing up and putting out awesome writing here, Haley! I think I've been here from the start, and I can't wait to see what you have in store for year 2 :)
I loved reading this and getting to know you a bit better, Haley! Your Substack is one I always look forward to and though we haven't met, I feel a kinship with you through your writing. It also seems we share a love of tough professors who cut through the bullshit and challenge us. That (more than so much else) is where I learned to think and question deeply. I'm so excited to see where you take us in the next year!
Thank you so much, Jade!! Finding the kinship with other writers has been the most lovely (and honestly, very unexpected) treat of joining Substack. Thanks for being here!!
Congratulations on your Substack anniversary! I just found you and really enjoyed reading this. After leaving academia I struggled to break free of the voice it demanded. I still spend my time reading a lot of academic writing and it's striking how inaccessible much of it is. If only academics were encouraged to write more lyrically we might all learn a lot more. Looking forward to reading more of your essays!
Thanks Haley! My background is in Social Policy but I left to work in practice for a local authority. I now spend my time reading and writing about much happier things like art and books (which often have a connection to the historical parts of Social Policy that I loved).
Happy Substack anniversary! Here's to many more years.
Thank you Gayla!!

Thanks so much, Kate! You have indeed been here all along and I'm so glad we found each other's work! ✨

Dude! Congrats! It has been so fun to watch this grow, and to see where you've taken it. Genuinely inspiring.
Thanks Errin!! So excited for year 2!
Happy one year Haley! Here's to many more!! I look forward to what's in store and learning more and more from your incredible insights :)
Thanks so much, Luka!!!
Wow, congratulations on a year?
That was supposed to be an exclamation point!

Thanks so much Natalie!! I'm so glad you're here. I love reading work from academics who've left academia. Excited to check out your site, too!!
