Rambling on the question: "What is it that you do, exactly?"
I started a new job this week. I’m beyond excited about it and not just because I love new beginnings. I’m excited because I’ve joined a team that leads with clarity and process — that articulates what is happening and why. You’d think that’s a fair, basic expectation but I’ve worked for teams who never bothered to offer those things. Getting clear information, plenty of time to read it and review it, and knowing who to meet with to discuss it afterward? Without having to pull teeth or complete extra, unpaid labor to navigate it all alone? Magic.
In the short break I had between jobs, I started working on an Edith Wharton reading guide, writing essays I’ve been publishing here, and I read a bunch of wonderful books. I also spent a lot of time thinking about what I do, as a writer and thinker and reader. And how closely reading informs my work as a creative strategist and writer.
